Google PhD Fellowships 2024
Parnian Kassraie, Simon Meierhans, and Lorenzo Noci, all three of them doctoral students at the Department of Computer Science, have been awarded the Google PhD Fellowship. The programme was created to recognize outstanding students doing innovative research in areas relevant to computer science. Congratulations!
Google PhD Fellowships directly support students as they pursue their doctorate, as well as connect them to a Google Research Mentor. The programme aims to support exceptional and innovative research in areas relevant to computer science and related fields.

Parnian Kassraie is a doctoral student in Professor Andreas Krause's group within the Institute for Machine Learning. She is interested in statistics, optimization, and learning theory, often in the context of sequential decision-making and reinforcement learning. Parnian completed her M.Sc. at ETH Zurich and did a dual B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Sharif University of Technology.
external page Simon Meierhans is a doctoral student in external page Professor Rasmus Kyng's group with the Institute for Theoretical Computer Science. His interests lie in the realm of algorithms and optimization. Simon is particularly fascinated by fast graph algorithms and their relations to linear algebra. Occasionally he dabbles in other fields, such as deep learning and high performance computing. Simon completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at ETH Zurich.
Lorenzo Noci is a doctoral student in Professor Thomas Hofmann's group within the Institute for Machine Learning. He is interested in various aspects of deep learning theory, from initialization to training dynamics, and focuses on scaling limits for neural networks, specifically how to adjust the model and its hyperparameters in large-scale systems. His research also explores modern architectures, such as transformers. Lorenzo obtained a Master's degree in Data Science from ETH, and a Bachelor's degree from Politecnico di Milano.
