Young Swiss computer scientists win silver and bronze
Almost 200 young female computer scientists from 56 countries took part in the European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI), which took place in the Netherlands from July 21 to 27. All four Swiss participants were delighted to receive a medal at the end.

The European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) is a week-long international competition for young women interested in computer science. The Olympiad consists of several days of competition during which the participants solve challenging algorithmic problems. This year, the competition took place in the Netherlands between July 21 and 27. Among the 200 or so female computer athletes were four Swiss women, all four of whom were awarded a medal at the end.
The 15-year-old Hongjia Meng from the Kantonale Mittelschule Uri won a bronze medal. Silver medals went to 15-year-old Myriam Faltin from Geneva (until recently Cycle d'orientation des Voirets), 18-year-old Hannah Oss from the Kantonsschule am Burggraben in Sankt Gallen and 19-year-old Vivienne Burckhardt from Zurich, who graduated from the MNG Zurich and has taken part every year since the EGOI was founded in 2021. The Swiss participants qualify for the EGOI based on their performance in the national competition. Congratulations to all participants for this great achievement.
The EGOI programme is similar to that of established competitions such as the IOI (International Olympiad in Informatics) or the CEOI (Central European Olympiad in Informatics). In comparison to these, EGOI covers the whole of Europe and participation is restricted to women.
