Professor Ana Klimovic from the Systems Group was granted the prestigious Facebook Research Award. The award aims to support innovative solutions to the challenges that still remain in the data management community.

Ana Klimovic, professor at the Department of Computer Science and head of the Efficient Architectures and Systems Lab, is one of the recipients of the Facebook Research Award. In April 2021, Facebook launched the Next-generation Data Infrastructure call for proposals in the area of large-scale query processing, physical layout and IO optimisations, data management and processing at a global scale and machine learning, among others. Klimovic was then awarded for her proposal "Flexible scheduling for machine learning data processing close to storage". 

Ana Klimovic’s work focuses on computer systems for large-scale applications such as cloud computing services, data analytics, and machine learning, while her research interests span operating systems, computer architecture, and their intersection with machine learning. Klimovc's research aims to improve the performance and resource efficiency of cloud computing while making it easier for users to deploy and manage their applications.
