Why computer science?
In 1981, ETH Zurich launched its new computer science degree programme and 110 students started their first semester. 40 years later, the Department of Computer Science is the academic home of over 2500 students and enjoys growing interest worldwide.
The study programme was founded in 1981 at the interface of mathematics, engineering and natural sciences. In the fall of that year, 110 students entered the new programme. D-INFK today holds a leading position worldwide: At the moment, more than 45 professors from all over the world conduct their research and teach at the Department of Computer Science. Over 300 doctoral students and about 110 post-doctoral and senior researchers contribute to maintaining the department’s high level of teaching and research. Around 1400 Bachelor’s and 800 Master’s students currently benefit from this excellent academic environment. Meeting the specific needs of the job market, the department offers a range of specialised Master's degree programmes.
