Professor Markus Gross has been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his technical contributions to filmmaking.

Professor Markus Gross, Vice President of Research at The Walt Disney Studios, Director of DisneyResearch|Studios in Zurich and Professor of Computer Graphics at ETH Zurich, has been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on June 30, 2020. He joins the Academy as a "Member-at-Large", based on his scientific and technical contributions that led to leading creative tools for the crafts involved in the creation of the theatrical motion picture experience. As a Member-at-Large, he enjoys Oscars voting privileges.

This great honor recognises his leadership of DisneyResearch|Studios and reflects the many direct contributions Markus Gross, DisneyResearch|Studios, and the Computer Graphics Laboratory at ETH Zurich have made to films through research achievements.

Markus Gross is a two-time recipient of the Technical Achievement Award of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: he was awarded the prestigious "Tech Oscar" in 2013 and again in 2019.
