QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) unveiled its 2025 World University Rankings by subject. ETH Zurich landed with 3 subjects in the top spot. A further 16 placed within the top ten in the world, among them Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (rank 8) and Computer Science and Information Systems (rank 10).

From 22 to 29 March 2025, it’s that time again: companies, universities and organisations in the Greater Zurich Area are inviting you to dive into the fascinating world of computer science as part of the Informatiktage. On Saturday, 29 March, the Department of Computer Science, together with the ETH AI Center, the ETH IT Services, the Swiss Data Science Center and several ETH spin-offs and start-ups, will open their doors and invite visitors to a diverse mix of programme highlights.

On 8 March we celebrate women and their achievements around the world on the annual International Women's Day. We would like to express our appreciation to all the dedicated women within our department! Find out why three of our female professors decided to pursue an academic career in computer science.

Karl Bringmann has been appointed as Full Professor of Theoretical Computer Science in the Department of Computer Science. He specialises in the design of combinatorial algorithms and fine-grained complexity. The field of research he launched was able to provide the first rigorous evidence that certain computational problems cannot be solved in linear time. Through his appointment, the Department is strengthening the research area of algorithms and complexity. Congratulations!

Yannis Chronis has been appointed Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Database Management Systems in the Department of Computer Science. His research in data management has led to pioneering contributions in planning, query optimisation, indexing, and fundamental database algorithms and data structures. His work in key areas of computer science strengthens the Department’s expertise and fosters valuable synergies. Congratulations!
