Ana Klimovic wins EuroSys Jochen Liedtke Young Researcher Award
Professor Ana Klimovic, who leads the Efficient Architectures and Systems Lab at ETH Zurich, has been honoured with the prestigious EuroSys Jochen Liedtke Young Researcher Award. The award was created in 2014 by ACM EuroSys to reward junior European researchers who have demonstrated exceptional creativity and innovation in systems research. Congratulations!

Ana Klimovic, Assistant Professor in the Systems Group at the Department of Computer Science, has been chosen for this year's EuroSys Jochen Liedtke Young Researcher Award.
With this award, Ana Klimovic is honoured for her work on cloud systems, in particular contributions to systems for machine learning and serverless cloud computing.
The EuroSys Jochen Liedtke Young Researcher Award, established in 2014 by ACM EuroSys, recognises junior European researchers for innovative contributions to systems research. Named after Jochen Liedtke, a pioneer in microkernel architecture, the award includes prize money and is presented annually at the EuroSys conference. Candidates must be nominated and meet specific eligibility criteria, including a Ph.D. within the past 10 years and a significant career presence in Europe.
Ana Klimovic is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at ETH Zurich where she leads the Efficient Architectures and Systems Lab (EASL) within the Institute for Computing Platforms – Systems Group. She works on computer systems for large-scale applications such as cloud computing services, data analytics, and machine learning. The goal of her research is to improve the performance and resource efficiency of cloud computing while making it easier for users to deploy and manage their applications. Her research interests span operating systems, computer architecture, and their intersection with machine learning.
Before joining ETH Zurich, Ana Klimovic spent a year as a Research Scientist at Google Brain. She completed her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, advised by Professor Christos Kozyrakis. Her dissertation was on the design and implementation of fast, elastic storage for cloud computing and she earned her Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University in 2015.
Ana Klimovic has received several research awards, including the Google Academic Research Award (2024), the VMware Early-Career Faculty Award (2023), and a Swiss National Science Foundation Starting Grant (2023). She was also awarded the Facebook Research Award (2021) and the Google-Initiated Faculty Research Award (2020).
