2023 VIS Teaching Awards

Students of the department have voted for their favourite lecturers and teaching assistants. VIS President Emilia Pucher announced the winners at the last Department Conference.

At the last Department Conference on 18 December, VIS President Emilia Pucher announced the winners of the 2023 VIS Teaching Awards (Autumn Semester 2023). Students have voted for their favorite lecturers in four different categories.

The winners of the 2023 VIS Teaching Awards are:

  • VIS Teaching Award for Funniest Lecture – Timothy Roscoe, Professor of the Network and Operating Systems Group.
  • VIS Teaching Award for Best Lecture Material – Juraj Hromkovic, Professor of Information Technology and Education.
  • VIS Teaching Award for Best Organisation – Ghislain Fournysenior scientist and lecturer (focus education).
  • VIS Teaching Award for Best Interaction – Afonso Bandeira, Professor of the Combinatorics Group.

Teaching assistants (TAs) were also distinguished for their extra efforts to support students in lectures and practical courses. This semester’s favourite TAs are Cédric Déteindre, Georg Hasebe, Leon Kolmanic, Pierre Roth, Gent Serifi, Jonathan Smith, Gohar Tamrazyan, Nicolas Wehrli, Frederick Wolff, Aaron Zeller and Kai Zheng.

  • Kai Zheng: distinguished for lecture recaps, wonderful summaries, birthday present test

  • Leon Kolmanicdistinguished for great summaries, making it easy to understand, being enthusiastic
  • Nicolas Wehrlidistinguished for clear explanations, great material, being ready to help
  • Pierre Roth: distinguished for lovely visualisations, great structure, explaining common pitfalls
