Srdjan Capkun and Zhendong Su named IEEE Fellows

Srdjan Capkun and Zhendong Su, professors at the Department of Computer Science, have been named IEEE Fellows. The prestigious grade of IEEE Fellow is conferred upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest.

The IEEE Fellow Comittee announced the newly elevated IEEE Fellows of 2023 — amongst them are Professor Srdjan Capkun and Professor Zhendong Su, both from the Department of Computer Science. The distinction recognises the extensive research accomplishments in their respective fields and garners great respect in the technical community and is considered an important career achievement.

Srdjan Capkun

Srdjan Capkun has been named IEEE Fellow for his contributions to wireless and systems security.

Srdjan Capkun is a full professor at the Department of Computer Science and Director of the Zurich Information Security and Privacy Center (ZISC). At D-INFK, he leads the System Security Group. His research interests are in system and network security, with a special focus on wireless security (in particular secure positioning), and system security where he focuses on trusted computing and blockchain technologies. He is a co-founder of 3db Access, which focuses on secure distance measuement and proximity-based access control, and of Futurae, a company focusing on usable on-line authentication. In 2016 he received an ERC Consolidator Grant for a project on securing positioning in wireless networks. He is also a fellow of the ACM.

Zhendong Su

Zhendong Su has been named IEEE Fellow for his contributions to automated software testing and analysis.

Zhendong Su is a full professor at the Department of Computer Science at ETH Zurich, where he leads the Advanced Software Technologies Lab at the Institute for Programming Languages and Systems. Zhendong Su develops fundamental and practical innovations to help people construct reliable, secure, performant and usable software through integrated activities in research and education. His work spans programming languages, compilers, software engineering, computer security and systems, machine learning and education technologies. His work has received various awards, such as an ACM SIGSOFT Impact Paper Award and an ICSE Most Influential Paper (MIP) Award.
