SIGHPC Dissertation Award for Maciej Besta
Dr. Maciej Besta, who is a member of the Scalable Parallel Computing Lab at the Department of Computer Science, has won the 2022 SIGHPC Doctoral Dissertation Award. Congratulations!
Dr. Maciej Besta from the Institute for High Performance Computing Systems has won the prestigious 2022 SIGHPC Doctoral Dissertation Award. The award is given each year for the best doctoral dissertation completed in high performance computing. Besta’s dissertation, titled “Enabling High-Performance Large-Scale Irregular Computations” is noted not only for the significant contributions it made to the field, but also the depth and thoroughness of the work.
In his work, Maciej Besta focuses on understanding and accelerating large-scale irregular graph computations, such as graph neural networks, graph databases and graph streaming, in any types of settings and workloads.
About the award
The SIGHPC Doctoral Dissertation Award is open to students studying anywhere in the world who have completed a doctoral dissertation with HPC as a central research theme. The award is presented during the annual SC conference and is rewarded with a $2,000 cash prize.
