For her dissertation on "Local Algorithms for Classic Graph Problems", Manuela Fischer received the 2022 ACM Principles of Distributed Computing Doctoral Dissertation Award. Manuela wrote her dissertation at the Institute of Theoretical Computer Science at the Department of Computer Science at ETH Zurich. In her dissertation, she presents her findings on the design of distributed algorithms for numerous graph problems in models such as LOCAL and CONGESTED-CLIQUE. Further, she introduces new techniques for distributed algorithm design, as well as for the analysis of randomised algorithms for graph problems. Professor Mohsen Ghaffari was Manuela’s advisor.

As of January 2022, Manuela is working as a lecturer at the Department of Computer Science and deepening her research into local algorithms for graph problems. Manuela shares her 2022 ACM Principles of Distributed Computing Doctoral Dissertation Award with Naama Ben-David from the Carnegie Mellon University. Congratulations to both scientists!
