After one cancellation and one virtual event, the Kontaktparty will finally return on 12 March 2022. With almost 100 exhibitors from a wide range of fields, the Association of Computer Science Students at ETH Zurich (VIS) gives students the opportunity to get to know the industry and meet potential employers. Clemens Bachmann, the president of the organising committee for the Kontaktparty 2022, answers the students’ most burning questions about the event.

What will the Kontaktparty be like?
The fair will take place in the Mensa Polyterrasse and in the Ein/Zweistein. Companies from various fields will set up their booths there. You will have the opportunity to stroll through the Mensa and talk to company representatives. These casual conversations are non-binding. If you are interested, you can exchange contact information and then perhaps move on to the application process. You can get a more detailed impression of the Kontaktparty in the 2019 aftermovie.

Which companies will participate?
At the Kontaktparty, you’ll find companies from a wide range of industries – big players, SMEs and start-ups. From computer vision and graphics to security, consulting or software engineering, just to name a few – there is something for everyone. You can find a complete list in the Fairguide.

How do I prepare for the fair?
Start by taking a look at the Fairguide and consider which exhibitors interest you. If you need a new photo for your resume or want to update your CV, come to one of our two CV Checks, either on 1 March (registration required) or on the day of the Kontaktparty.

I am looking for a job. How else can you help me?
In addition to CV checks and application photos, we offer two talks in cooperation with the ETH Career Center. The first is an interview workshop that will prepare you for your next job interview. In the second, we will show you how to use LinkedIn for your job search. You can find more information on the VIS website.

Finally in person again after two years: the Kontaktparty 2022 will take place in the Mensa Polyterrasse and in the Einstein & Zweistein.

I’m a first-year student. Does it make sense for me to attend the Kontaktparty?
Absolutely. I also went to the Kontaktparty in my first year at ETH Zurich. I learned about the industry, got some goodies and made some connections. Through those connections, I landed my first student job as a campus scout. In addition to my studies, I had a 20% job implementing some projects for a company together with ETH and other universities. It was fun to have this variety during the otherwise very technical curriculum.

Is there a dress code?
At my first Kontaktparty, I showed up in a dress shirt and jeans. This is called business casual and it’s certainly a good way to go. Some company representatives wear a t-shirt or a hoodie. This depends on the industry. In finance and consulting, formal attire is often more important, although there are exceptions, especially in younger companies. I recommend that you wear a comfortable outfit that makes you feel like you’re making a good impression.

The Kontaktparty lasts from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Will there be something to eat?
This year, for the first time, we are offering food for guests. There will be a lunch from SV Group, a vegetarian menu and one with meat at the normal cafeteria prices.

Who organises the fair? How can I help?
The Kontaktparty organising committee is a committee of VIS. We are a team of ten students who put this event together on a voluntary basis. We also rely on numerous helpers for this. If you would like to take a look behind the scenes, please contact us at .
