Prof. Ankit Singla

Professor Singla, what are your interests and hobbies outside of science?
I play a bit of guitar, enjoy small amounts of non-technical reading and writing, hiking, and travel.

What's your favourite inspirational quote?
"Life would be tragic if it weren't funny." — Stephen Hawking.

What would you do if you had one year of paid leave?
Learn a new skill, e.g., flamenco guitar, a new area of science, or spend it automating thing(s) useful in everyday life.

If you weren't a scientist, what would you be?
A writer.

What is your guiding philosophy for running your lab and doing research?
I hope to be brave about research questions, and pursue an ambitious agenda, while directing the training of my students and teaching in such a way as to motivate them towards this same goal.

Name a fun fact about your field or your research.
The Internet is typically more than 30 times slower than it could potentially be.

What does diversity in computer science mean to you and why is it important?
Diversity in general implies to me the equality of opportunity for all people. As a greater and greater chunk of our lives involves CS-dependent or CS-derived technology and artifacts, it becomes more and more unfair if everyone does not have opportunities to pursue it.
