Thinking logically, solving problems, and telling the computer what to do: These are the strengths of the roughly 330 participants of the International Olympiad in Informatics. The 37th edition of this programming competition for young people took place from 27 July to 3 August in Sucre, Bolivia. All four members of the Swiss delegation received a medal or award.

Informatics Olympiad for young women: Geneva student wins Switzerland’s second gold medal

Women compete for medals not only in soccer – but also in computer science. At the European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI), held from 14–20 July in Germany, a participant from Geneva won Switzerland’s second-ever gold medal since the competition was founded four years ago. Mixed Swiss teams also saw recent success, for example at the Western European Olympiad in Informatics, where they earned seven medals, including gold for a student from Geneva.
