Make history: Name our D-INFK owl mascot!

Initially introduced in 2018 to add an emotional touch to our giveaways distributed at school visits or recruiting and young talent events, the little owl is becoming increasingly popular as a mascot in the D-INFK community.

The laptop and phone stickers featuring the owl have become a hit among students. There are first special editions, such as the hologram version and an exclusive gold edition for our Master's graduates. This year, we have taken it up a notch by offering the owl as a temporary tattoo in various colours at public events.

In May 2023, our mascot reached a new level of recognition. During the Department Party at OAT, the then VIS President Julia Bogdan and Festival Minister Florence (Flo) Kissling presented us with a "live" version of our mascot in the form of a fabric owl. Just as the polar bear Björn represents VIS, the little fluffy owl will now be the official mascot of the Department of Computer Science. A big shoutout to VIS for this wonderful idea and gesture!

Community power for the name search

Now, here is the fun part: We need a name for our new D-INFK community member!

We invite you to unleash your creativity and come up with a suitable name. Simply fill out the form below and suggest your ideas. There is an exciting prize in it for the sender of the winning name: You will be immortalized in the department's history and get to have lunch with our current department head, Kenny Paterson, for some quality Q&A time and discussions.

The board of the VIS Association of Computer Science Students has presented this cute fluffy owl to the department. It's about time to find a name. The whole D-INFK community is invited to participate in the name competition. (Photos: D-INFK / ETH Zurich)
