Take part in the mascot showdown!
We are delighted with the large number of votes we have received. It has come down to a neck-and-neck race between two names and we would like to ask for your vote one last time. Please cast your vote now and stand up for your favourite
If your original favourite is not in this neck-and-neck race, we understand that you might be a little disappointed (we are thinking mainly of Lossy here). But we really hope you can warm to one of the two names.
Before you decide, take another look at our cute owl and delve deep into its marvellous dark brown eyes. What do you see and feel? Which of the two options suits best? Imagine what it sounds like when you introduce the mascot: "Hello, this is SoPhi, our mascot!" Or "Hello, this is Dr Hoo, our mascot!". How does that sound and feel? Or look at the owl sticker* on your laptop and let your inner voice experiment with which name fits better.

1) SoPhi

“SoPhi (so-fi) is inspired from the greek name Sophia which (also in other languages) means “wisdom”. Wisdom in Greek mythology was typically represented with an owl. The name also corresponds to So-ftware Phi-losophy which can be thought as the general scope of our Informatics department: we all think (philosophize) about computer programs (software).”
The deadline for voting has been reached.
The announcement of the mascot name is planned for the READ.ME newsletter in December. The name giver will be notified by email before the public announcement, find mention in the D-INFK History, and win lunch with Kenny Paterson, our current department head. (And if you are really lucky, he will bring his cool dog! Who can claim to have had lunch with a "Duke" 🙂).
The three winners of the D-INFK water bottles will also be announced in the December READ.ME.

*Owl stickers

If you don't have an owl sticker yet, you can change this immediately. Simply get in touch with the Communication & Marketing group or drop by. If nobody from the team is there, there are usually a few stickers on the sideboard in our open kitchen area. Help yourself!
