The video game Unrailed!, developed by Hendrik Baatz, Thomas Lang, Lukas Rahmann and Thomas Wolf as part of the Game Programming Laboratory course, has garnered worldwide interest at trade shows and in the media. On 9 September 2019, it became the first game developed at the Department of Computer Science to be commercially available.

The festival, a joint project of Switzerland’s Consulate General, the city of Zurich, ETH and the University of Zurich, provides a significant opportunity to strike roots as deep as to yield such potent energy. ETH Zurich and EPFL are jointly entering into a new research partnership with Microsoft Research. Over five years, Microsoft Research will provide five million Swiss francs of funding to support IT research projects. Microsoft researchers will also work closely with the scientists at the two universities.
Karl Heinz Beckurts Award for computer graphics pioneer

Prof. Markus Gross will receive the Karl Heinz Beckurts Award 2013. The award, endowed with 30,000 Euros, will be presented on Monday, December 9, at 5:45 p.m. in the ballroom of the Rotes Rathaus in Berlin. With this award, the Karl Heinz Beckurts Foundation honors one of the world's leading scientists in the field of visual computing and computer animation. (German)

Top honour for ETH-Zurich professor and Disney director Markus Gross: he is to receive a “Tech Oscar” from the Academy of Motion and Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) along with three other computer scientists for a procedure they developed which leading special effects studios now use to simulate smoke and explosions in Hollywood films.
