CAS in Computer Science and Computer Science Didactics at Primary Level
In almost all future professions, basic computer science skills will increasingly be part of the job profile as a matter of course. Curriculum 21 formulates the mandate to teach computer science in all three cycles of compulsory schooling. Consequently, subject-specific and subject-didactic knowledge of the basic concepts of computer science will increasingly be a standard part of the application profile of successful teachers, even at the primary level.
The certificate course "Computer Science and Computer Science Didactics at Primary Level" is offered in cooperation between the PH Graubünden and the ETH Zurich. The Curriculum 21 competencies in computer science are discussed in detail and their development is placed at the centre. Here, the focus is also placed on subject-integrated teaching that demonstrates computer science concepts in other subject areas and builds bridges to mathematics or languages, for example.
Successful completion of the course enables teachers to teach computer science at the primary level in a sustainable, engaging and level-appropriate manner.
The programme is aimed at teachers at primary level and the prerequisite is a teaching qualification for primary level. The language requirement is German at C2 level. external page Show levels

Fees
The costs for the entire certificate course "Computer Science and Computer Science Didactics at Primary Level" amount to CHF 6000.
The certificate course starts in October 2023 and ends in November 2024. The module "Basic Concepts of Computer Science" lasts four full days and takes place at ETH Zurich. The CAS "Computer Science and Computer Science Didactics at Primary Level" includes two further modules, "Subject Didactics Data Science" and "Subject Didactics Programming", which deal with the development of the corresponding competences for the first two cycles; the attendance time for each of these is four full days, half of which take place at the PH Graubünden and the other half at ETH Zurich.
Attendance sessions
The attendance sessions take place on Fridays and Saturdays (full days) and are held in roughly equal parts at both universities. The introductory event takes place at ETH Zurich, the graduation ceremony at PH Graubünden. The certificate course "Computer Science and Computer Science Didactics at Primary Level" comprises 12 attendance days.
Self-organised work time
An essential part of the course consists of applying what has been learned, for example by developing teaching sequences. The results are discussed with the instructors and improved if necessary; individual appointments are made for this purpose, which can take place in person or virtually.
Each module contains its own performance assessment, included proportionally in the overall grade, which is also determined by the grade of the course paper.
Course paper
The course concludes with the writing of a course paper that puts into practice what has been learnt by planning and, ideally, implementing a concrete teaching module.
