Other mobility types

In addition to the exchange semester at a partner university and external Master's theses, there are other options for students to gain experience abroad. The Student Exchange Office provides an overview here.

Self-organised semester mobility

Students can apply for coursework at another university outside of the official exchange programmes. If a recognition of courses for the study programme at D-INFK is intended, the same prerequisites, conditions, and credit transfer rules as for an exchange semester apply. Students must ask the mobility advisor about the possible accreditation of each planned course ahead of time before the start of the semester mobility. The request will be forwarded internally to the departmental exchange coordinator, who takes a decision on behalf of the Director of Studies.

There is no entitlement to credit transfer. Requests can be rejected based on the planned coursework, the students' previous achievements, or their individual study situation.

ENHANCE learning opportunities

Please enquire with the mobility advisor before applying whether credit points for an ENHANCE learning opportunity can be transferred to your study programme at ETH Zurich.

Summer schools

Ask your contact person at the Studies Administration before applying whether credit points for a summer school can be transferred to your study programme at ETH Zurich.

The short-term mobility offers ENHANCE learning opportunities and summer schools might also be available to students who do not meet the prerequisites for an exchange semester due to their study programme (MSc in Cyber Security), Bachelor’s degree (not from ETH Zurich), or previous study achievements (grades below 4.5).

D-INFK allows students to complete a short-term mobility also if planning or having completed an exchange semester, but maximum 30 ECTS credits can be recognised from student mobility (including credits from a short-term mobility).
