 Prof. Dr.- Ing. Hans-Jörg Schek ist emeritierter Professor der ETH Zürich. Er war von 1988 bis 2005 im Departement Informatik, leitete die Datenbankgruppe und war lange Jahre Vorsteher des Instituts für Informationssysteme der ETH. von 2002 bis 2006 war er auch Professor und Vizerektor Forschung and der Privaten Universität für Gesundheitswissenschaften, Medizinische Informatik und Technologie Tirol (UMIT). Er hat ein Diplom in Mathematik von der Universität Stuttgart (1968), promovierte zum Dr.-Ing. (1972) und hat eine Habilitation (1978) im Ingenieurbereich ebenfalls an der Universität Stuttgart. Die Meilensteine seiner beruflichen Laufbahn sind das Wissenschaftliche Zentrum der IBM Heidelberg (1972-1983), C4 Professur an der Technischen Hochschule Darmstadt (1983-1988) und Forschungsaufenthalte beim IBM Almaden Forschungszentrum(1987), am ICSI Berkeley (1995) und am Institut für Medizinische Informatik der Universität Heidelberg (1995). Hans-J. Schek ist ACM Fellow seit 2001, erhielt u. a.den ACM Sigmod Contributions Award 2004, den IBM Shared Univerity Research Grant 2003 und den Most Infuential VLDB Paper Award 2008 .

Prof. Dr.- Ing. Hans-Jörg Schek is a Emeritus Professor of ETH Zurich Switzerland. He was a Professor of Computer Science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich between 1988 and 2005 where he directed the Database group and where he was Head of the Institute of Information Systems for many years. Between 2002 and 2006 he was also a Professor at the University for Health Sciences, Medical Informatics and Technology Tyrol (UMIT) Innsbruck where he was Vice President Research. He holds a diploma in Mathematics (University of Stuttgart, 1968) and a Ph.D (1972) and habilitation degree (1978) in Engineering from the University of Stuttgart. The milestones of his career are the University of Stuttgart (1968-1972), the IBM Scientific Center Heidelberg (1972-1983), Professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt (1983-1988), and research sabbaticals at IBM Almaden Research (1987), at the ICSI Berkeley (1995) and at the Medical Informatics Department of the University of Heidelberg (1995). H.-J. Schek is an ACM Fellow since 2001, his awards include the ACM Sigmod Contributions Award in 2004, the IBM Shared University Research Award in 2003, and the Most-Influential VLDB Paper Award 2008.
