New equipment for the computer labs

The public computer labs in rooms H 56 and 57 in the CAB have received a facelift: The existing PCs were replaced with the latest Lenovo all-in-one PCs. A change became necessary, as support for the Windows 10 operating system will end in autumn 2025 and the eight-year-old computers cannot get the update. The IT Service Group (ISG) is seeking a new home for the discarded but still functional PCs. They are in talks with Professors Dennis Komm and Juraj Hromkovic from the Centre for Computer Science Education at ETH Zurich (ABZ) about this. The idea is to give the PCs away for computer science classes at Swiss schools. If that does not work out, they will pursue and consider other ideas.

The computer labs are mostly used by students and for visits or courses. The new workstations offer more space as users can click the keyboard into place at an angle in front of the screen when not in use. Suitable alternatives for the existing chairs are being considered.

Many thanks to the entire ISG team for planning and implementing the project!
